Stefan Weidner [ Germany ]

Stefan Weidner, born in Cologne in 1967, studied Islamic studies, German and philosophy in Göttingen, Damascus, Berkeley, and Bonn. Since then he has been active as a writer, journalist and translator. Since 2001 he has been chief editor of the journal »Fikrun wa Fann«, published by the Goethe Institute, which sees its purpose as mediating between Western and Islamic worlds. In 2007 Weidner was awarded the Johann-Heinrich-Voß Prize for his translations of Arabic poetry, including works by Adonis and Mahmud Darwish.
