Call to take part in the "berlin liest" reading to launch the 16th international literature festival berlin on September 7th 2016, 6 a.m. to 17.30 p.m.

Once again, this year’s international literature festival will be started off with the big reading performance “berlin liest”.
Therefore we would like to invite everybody living in Berlin to read a piece of prose or poetry of their choice at their favourite place. The theme proposed is “reading for democracy against populism” for which some texts will be supplied on our website. However, you are also welcome to read your own creation or texts by other authors and on other topics.

This year’s great reading performance on September 7th  begins at 6 a.m. and finishes at 5.30 p.m. – half an hour before the 16th ilb opens its doors at the Haus der Berliner Festspiel. Every participant will receive a free day pass for the festival (depends on availability). Please invite your friends and family to read with you. You can sign up as groups up to three people.

The choice of the reading location is entirely up to you: it can take place in a metro station or train, on your doorstep, in a public square, on the school yard, in a university foyer, in a park or Unter den Linden. The reading should take between 5 and 15 minutes. Here you can find a list of literary addresses, that might inspire you choice. If you would like to read in one of our partner libraries, bookshops or literary institutions, let us know and we will send you a list.

If you want to read in a foreign language - wonderful!
Please inform us about the language you will be reading in.

We would be delighted to count you among our participants.
We need the following - by August 30th:

● your name
● the title of the work you will be reading from
● the author's name
● the exact place of your reading
● the exact time of your reading

So sign up and spread the word! Two weeks before the festival starts we will announce all the readings on our website and on Facebook.

Please send an e-mail to if you want to participate.
