30 Books Selected as »Extraordinary« by the international literature festival berlin
Since 2012, each guest of the International Children’s and Young Adult Literature section of the international literature festival been has been asked to nominate one extraordinary book for children, young people or young adults, backing up their decision with a short jury statement that describes what makes their selected book so special. The 30 books selected as »2016’s Extraordinary Books« by the 30 guests of the section programme will be on display in both their original languages and in German translation at free exhibitions held at the Philipp Schaeffer Library (5.–23.9.2016) and the Haus der Berliner Festspiele (7.–17.9.2016) as part of the 16h international literature festival berlin. The jurors responsible for selecting »2016’s Extraordinary Books« include the writers and illustrators Nikolaus Heidelbach (Germany), Mawil (Germany), David Van Reybrouck (Belgium), Boualem Sansal (Algeria), Allen Say (Japan / USA) and Ruta Sepetys (USA). The books chosen this year include DON QUIJOTE by Miguel de Cervantes, DANNY, THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD by Roald Dahl, TINTIN AU TIBET by Hergé, SIDDHARTHA by Hermann Hesse, THE ARRIVAL by Shaun Tan and LE TOUR DU MONDE EN 80 JOURS by Jules Verne.
