Javier Cercas, Jordi Soler: Literature and Memory
»Another well-intentioned novel about the Civil War!« - thus wrote Javier Cercas as a headline for an article in »El País« in reference to the Mexican writer, Jordi Soler's, novel »La fiesta del oso« (tr: The Festival of Bears). The article, which mocks a certain kind of Spanish intellectualism, concludes with a storm of praise for the novel. What is certain is that both Cercas and Soler are intensely concerned in their novels and articles with the Spanish Civil War and its aftermath. Presented by Peter Kultzen, who translates the works of both writers into German, this event will bring them together in Berlin to discuss literature and memory.
