[Cancelled] Ha Jin: the portrayal of the horrific massacre in »Nanjing Requiem«
The Chinese writer Ha Jin, who emigrated to the USA in 1985, constantly returns in his novels to his homeland. His themes are the consequences of the Cultural Revolution, the question of a return to Communist China, brutality, war and disregard for human rights. At this year's 11th ilb, he will be presenting his latest, as yet unpublished novel »Nanjing Requiem«, which is concerned with one of the darkest chapters of the 20th century. Ha Jin won the National Book Award in 1999 and the PEN/Faulkner Award in 2000 for »Waiting« and the PEN/Faulkner Award again in 2005 for »War Trash«.
