In the North-South literary salon »Bär unter Palmen« (tr. Bear beneath palms), Husein Chawich and Günther Orth present Abdul Rahman Munif's classic novel »East of the Mediterranean«, which was first published in 1975 and has been regularly reprinted since then. They will be discussing with Tahar Ben Jelloun how the European book market has dealt with the Arab Spring, using the examples of two works of non-fiction: »L'Etincelle« (tr: The Arab Spring) by Tahar Ben Jelloun and »Demokratie im Islam« (tr: Democracy in Islam) by Gudrun Krämer.
