In her first novel »Strom« (tr: Current), Hannah Dübgen tells the stories of people who walk between cultures: a Japanese pianist who gives concerts all over Europe, an American banker who organises the acquisition of a traditional Japanese company in Tokyo, and Ada from Berlin, who wants to shoot a film about life in the Gaza Strip. A radio presenter, who is the main character in Eshkol Nevo’s novel »Neuland«, travels in the opposite direction to reconcile with her mother. In both novels Berlin is merely a short stop on a quest for refuge of people in search of a place to begin a new, different life.
