Sorokin’s novel “The Blizzard” begins like a story from the 19th century, soon revealing itself as a fantastic odyssey through a grotesque and imaginary Russia of the near future. Garin, a country doctor, travels to Dolgoje in order to vaccinate the inhabitants of the town against a mysterious disease. On his journey he meets dwarfs and giants, a radio with “living images”, a paste that helps felt “grow”, a miracle drug, and much more.
