Bernard Noël’s prose poems, collected in the volume “Körperextrakte” (“Body Extracts”) are the result of a unique “reciprocal fusion”: he equips words with a body, and the body with words. With clinical accuracy and poetic contemplation, the language of his “écriture du corps” opens up the innermost spaces of the physical, and unveils out a tableau of linguistically and as yet unknown universes.
Meddeb became known through his publications in “Lettre International” and Germany’s Das Wunderhorn publishing house, particularly for his work “Die Krankheit des Islams” (“The Sickness of Islam”). In “Talismano”, a first-person narrator in Paris conducts a fantasy exploration of Tunis, the city of his childhood, and situates the reader amidst the diversity and sensuality of an Arabian medina. In “Phantasia”, on the other hand, the narrator and flaneur takes a visit to the street-scapes of Paris and, in doing so, forges a link to Walter Benjamin’s urban strolls.
