The recent collection of stories by Ha Jin, who has lived in the USA since 1985, deals with Flushing, one of the biggest Chinese communities in New York. Its themes are the longing of the migrants for their home, the difficulties they encounter in the Promised Land, their social and economic freedom, and the limits and boundaries they come up against.
