Like many other significant writers of her generation, Steinunn Sigurðardóttir overcomes the Modernist tradition and pursues a freer mode of prose and poetry, in which she combines existentialism with humour and the trivial with the weighty, even managing to bring irony to the mythological world of her northern homeland.
The poems in the collection »Fackelzüge« (tr: Torchlight Procession) by Sigurbjörk Þrastardóttir are a love story that takes place between the landscapes of Iceland and the big city of Berlin. It is an existential and destructive story about drug addiction and yearning. Gerður Kristný Uðjónsdóttir is among the most prolific writers of the Icelandic scene. Her poems, children's books, novels, short stories and plays usually address feminist issues of female independence and self-determination.
