How old is the universe? What is life? How does the blue whale stem from bacteria? And is salt alive? In the non-fiction work HET RAADSEL VAN ALLES WAT LEEFT, Schutten asks all the big and the small questions about the creation of the universe, life and humanity, and then proceeds to answer them with humor and shrewd brilliance. In 200 questions and answers, the author explains the wonders of life in a child-friendly way, accompanied by Floor Rieder’s extravagant illustrations. HET RAADSEL VAN ALLES WAT LEEFT won the Golden Stylus (2014) and the Luchs des Monats (2014), and was nominated for the Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis (2015). Jan Paul Schutten is a first-time visitor at the ilb and will be presenting his book as part of the ilb project “Reading the Currents”. “Witty, surprising, playful and humorous” (Max Rauner, DIE ZEIT).
