SCHOOL'S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL:

Rex and Robinson’s children’s book tells the story of the first school day from the point of view of the lovable, but slightly shy Frederick Douglass Elementary School. The school feels very nervous. What will the children do when they get to school? Will they like it? After an exciting first day, the school discovers that every beginning is difficult, but also magical. SCHOOL’S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is a charmingly illustrated, funny and warm-hearted story about the fears and triumphs of new beginnings. Christian Robinson is a first-time guest at the ilb and will be presenting SCHOOL’S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL for the first time internationally. “This charming reversal of first-day-of-school nerves will delight little ones and help put their own anxieties at bay” (Booklist).

THE DEAD BIRD:

A group of happily playing school children finds a dead bird in the park. His eyes are closed and there’s no heartbeat. The children feel very sad, but they decide they want to say goodbye properly. They dig a little hole, place the bird gently inside and cover him in flowers. With tears in their eyes they sing a goodbye song to the little bird. THE DEAD BIRD tells the universal tales of loss, grief and goodbyes in a tone as light as feathers. The colorful illustrations reflect thoughtfully on the text and subtly emphasize its messages. Christian Robinson, the illustrator of the New York Times Best Ilustrated Children’s Books award (2016) winning book, is a first-time guest at the ilb and will be presenting THE DEAD BIRD for the first time internationally. “Masterly compositions” (The New York Times).
