Ulrich Matthes
Ulrich Matthes, born in Berlin, is one of Germany's most important actors. Following performances in Düsseldorf, Munich, Berlin and Vienna he has been a permanent member of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin since 2004/05, where he has appeared in many productions as well as carried out his own directing, in 2003. He was awarded the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring in 2005 as well as the distinction Actor of the Year for his role as George in Edward Albee's play »Wer hat Angst vor Virginia Woolf«. He has also often appeared on television and in movies, among them »Winterschläfer« (1997), »Der Untergang« (2004) and »Der Neunte Tag« (2004). Recordings of his readings of texts by Thomas Bernhard, Albert Camus, Haruki Murakami and others number among the most outstanding German-speaking audio books. Ulrich Matthes lives in Berlin.
