Rita Dahl, born in Finland in 1971, is a writer and freelance journalist. She attained a Masters degree in politics and comparative literature, studied Portuguese (2001-2002) and worked as an editor for several well-known literary magazines. Her first collection of poems, »Kun luulet olevasi yksin«, was published in 2004, followed by two further collections. In 2007 she published a travelogue about Portugal and edited an anthology of work by women writers from central Asia. She calls herself an »activist for the freedom of speech«. Dahl was vice-president of the Finnish branch of PEN from 2006 to 2009. Some of her poems were first translated into German for the festival.
