Born in 1954 in Beirut, the sociologist and anthropologist Marie-Claude Souaid-Hesse has dual French and Lebanese citizenship. After graduating in 1978 with a BA in sociology from the Université Lyon II in France, she taught at the Boukhlafa University in Algeria. Back to Lebanon in 1980 she embarked on a career as a teacher and researcher. In 2004 she was one of the main organizers of the Arab World Conference for the German Bundestag. Since 2005, Mrs Souaid-Hesse has been working as a consultant in Berlin.
