Larissa Bender, born in Cologne in 1958, studied ethnology, art history, sociology and Islamic studies in Cologne and Berlin. Prolonged stays in Syria. From November 2002 to December 2007, she was deputy editor-in-chief for the internet portal Qantara.de. Larissa Bender is a freelance translator of Arabic, journalist, reviewer for Arabic literature, and member of the academic staff at the State Language Institute of Ruhr University in Bochum.
