Fadhil Al Azzawi born in Kirkuk, Iraq, in 1940, studied English Literature at Baghdad University, and took his doctor’s degree at the University of Leipzig. He was a member of the Iraqi avant-garde of the 1960s, and migrated to Germany in 1977, where he worked as a freelance writer. He published 25 volumes of poetry, fiction, criticism, and many works of translation. Fadhil Al Azzawi lives in Berlin.
