David Machado [ Portugal ]

David Machado was born in Lisbon in 1978. He studied economics at the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gest�o, and began his literary career writing stories that appeared in a supplement of the daily paper �Di�rio de Not�cias�. �O fant�stico Ver�o do Caf� Lanterna� (t: The fantastic summer of Caf� Lanterna) was included in the anthology �Contos de Ver�o� (2004; t: Summer tales). Along with a novel, �O Fabuloso Teatro do Gigante� (2006; t: The giant�s fabulous theatre) � a fantastical journey through the inventive and enchanted imaginary world of Thomas and his wife Eunice, who relocate to a small village where they don�t know anyone � Machado has also published two children�s books. He was awarded the Pr�mio Branquinho da Fonseca in 2005.
