Bernard-Henri Lévy , born in Béni Saf, Algeria, and emigrated at an early age with his parents to France. The pupil of Derrida became famous with his political essay 'La barbarie à visage humain' in 1977. For his first novel 'Le diable en tête' (1984) he received the 'Prix Médicis'. Bernard-Henri Lévy, in his writing as well as in his political work, opposes totalitarian political systems throughout the world. The romancier, essayist and journalist is one of the most popular intellectuals in France. His most recent work 'American Vertigo' appeared in 2006. He lives in Paris.
