International Children's and Youth Literature

 Schools & Teachers

With our diverse range of readings and event listings – which can be relevant to the curriculum or extracurricular – the International Children’s and Youth Literature (YCL) section of the programme would like to bring children and adolescents access to books and reading together, to open their horizons, to challenge them emotionally, socially and artistically, and to motivate them to be engaged and active.

The reading and performance list for pupils caters to all ages and types of schools, from elementary schools to high school seniors. Since 2004, the YCL-Program has dedicated itself increasingly to picture books and illustrations, and has offered events tailored to four to six-year-olds. It can also be visited by day care centres and kindergartens. In addition, classes from outside Berlin have the opportunity to experience these events by means of a class trip incorporating a visit to the festival on the itinerary.

The events on offer for pupils vary and include readings (sometimes accompanied by presentation of illustrations and film excerpts), author interviews, theatre performances, workshops (writing, illustrations and film) and projects lasting several days, within and outside of school.

>>> Detailed information regarding cooperative possibilities for schools and day care centres, event offers for pupils, and registering and booking, can be found in the following PDF document.

Here, teachers can find our fax-form “What we’d Like to Know”, in which you can give us your contact information, can note questions and ideas. Upon receiving your form, we will add you to our mailing list.
