Here it is possible to experience literary diversity in our climate of globalisation: at the international literature festival Berlin. Arabic poets meet American short story writers, South Korean writers engage with their Russian colleagues, and South African novelists connect with the newest generation of Albanian authors. The festival provides a platform for exciting new talents to exchange ideas with the greats of world literature. The authors and audience engage in thought-provoking discussion and reach new insights over 12 days, in more than 200 events. 130 authors from nearly 50 countries share their opinions on new and established developments in contemporary world literature. Prose, poetry, talks with authors and political discussions, children´s and youth literature, literary film adaptations – the international literature festival is a spirited, multilingual forum for lovers of literature.

Record attendance at the 7th international literature festival berlin
The 7th international literature festival berlin (ilb) came to an end Sunday evening with a musical poetry performance by actress and singer Jane Birkin. The consensus of the organizers is that these last 13 days devoted to literature went very well. In total, 34,000 literary enthusiasts attended the festival’s 254 events at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele and other venues, including the Instituto Cervantes, the Ibero-American Institute, and the Buchhändlerkeller. Press Release III - 2007
International Stars at the 7th international literature festival berlin. Advance ticket sales have begun.
David Grossman will open this year’s festival with his speech “Writing in a Disaster Zone”. At over 200 events in 13 days, audiences will have the chance to get to know internationally renowned authors, in addition to discovering new voices from contemporary literature.
Pulitzer Prize-winners Paul Muldoon (GB) and Jorie Graham (USA), celebrated French novelist Jean Rouaud and best-selling Canadian writer Jane Urquhart are among the 22 authors nominated by the Literatures of the World jury.
Writers who will read from their works in the Kaleidoscope section of the festival include Nobel Prize laureate Wole Soyinka (Nigeria/USA), the winner of the 2007 Büchner-Prize, Martin Mosebach (Germany), the author of the best-selling "Fight Club", Chuck Palahniuk (USA).....

Advance booking for some of the events has begun.
The opening speech will be given by Israeli author David Grossman. Wole Soyinka of Nigeria, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, will read from his recently published memoirs and poetry. Mario Vargas Llosa will read from his novel "The Bad Girl".
