Rampant youth unemployment is a massive problem in many societies. In southern Europe, between 30 and 50 percent of young people are jobless. Many others work under precarious and insecure conditions. A similar picture of hopelessness can be seen in many countries in the southern hemisphere, fuelling the desire of many in the younger generation to emigrate. How can we approach this development and create better prospects?

MODERATION:

VINCENT-IMMANUEL HERR [D] is part of the »Herr & Speer« team of writers and researches European youth and generational justice. As an activist, he initiated the projects »Young European Voices« and »FreeInterrail«.

WITH:

PATRÍCIA CARREIRA [P] is a member of the »Academia Cidadã«, which was founded by the organizers of the »Geração à rasca« [»distressed generation«] protest, on the 12th of March 2011, convened without political party or union support.

SARAYA GOMIS [D] is a secondary school teacher and teaches at the Ernst-Reuter-Schule in Berlin-Wedding. She is actively engaged in education policy and fights against discrimination in schools.

MARIE ROSENKRANZ [D] is project manager for the »Demokratie braucht Dich« [tr. Democracy Needs You] campaign by Polis180, a grassroots think tank for foreign and European policy.
