Thomas Macho was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1952, and
studied Philosophy, Music and Pedagogy. The Professor of Cultural
Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin is also one of the
founders of the Hermann von Helmholtz Centre for Cultural Sciences,
established at the Humboldt in 1999. In 2001 he won a prize from
the Aby-Warbung-Stiftung, and has most recently published the cultural
history 'Arme Schweine' (2006).
