José Luis de Juan
was born in Palma in 1956. At the age of 17 he wrote an
award-winning novella about Hemingway. Later he studied Law and
Information Science in Barcelona and worked as a lawyer, before
starting to write again. For his novels he received various
Spanish literature awards, including the Premio Juan March Cencillo for
"El apicultor de Bonaparte" (1996; t: Bonaparte’s Bee-keeper) and the
young people's literature prize Gran Angular for "Recordando a Lampe"
(2001; t: Remembering Lampe). He was a guest of the Villa Waldberta in
Munich from December 2004 to February 2005. After stays in Italy and
the USA, the author and writer of book reviews returned to live in
Mallorca.
