Alexander Demandt was born in 1937 in Marburg, Germany.
Since 1974 he has been professor of Ancient History at the Free
University Berlin, with Antiquity, Philososophy of History and History
of Science as his main focuses. In one of his most popular works,
"Sternstunden der Geschiche" (2000; t: Magic moments of history), he
describes historical events such as Alexander the Great entering
Babylonia In 2003 he was awarded the Ausonius-Prize of the
University of Trier.
