Faraj Sarkohi was born in 1947 in Shiraz, Iran,
studied Sociology and Persian Literature in Tabriz and Teheran and was
managing editor of the cultural magazine 'Adineh' for eleven years.
In 1996 he was one of the initiators of an appeal of 134 authors
to the Iranian government which wanted the guarantee of freedom of
language and the abolishing of censorship. In 1997 he was
repeatedly arrested and sentenced to death. Under international
pressure he succeded in going into exile in 1998. He is honorary
member of P.E.N. Germany and writes novels, stories and political
texts.
