Günter Herburger
was born in Isny, Bavaria, in 1932 and lives in München. He
studied Theatre, Philosophy and Sanskrit in Munich and Paris and for
several years trailed through North Africa, Spain and France. In
1992 he was awarded the Peter Huchel Prize. He has published
screenplays, radio plays, children’s books, novels, stories and
poems. The volumes "Lauf und Wahn" (1988; t: Running and
delusion), "Traum und Bahn" (1994; t: Dream and lane) and "Schlaf und
Strecke" (2004; t: Sleep and distance) tell of the passion of
marathon running. Most recently Herburger published "Der Tod" (2006; t:
Death), the third part of his "trilogy of waste" that includes
the volumes "Das Glück" (1994; t: Happiness) and "Die Liebe" (1996; t:
Love). The work is characterized by the use of text and picture
as fundamental narrating device. The writer lives in Munich.
