Guest of the ilb 2007
Thant Myint-U is the grandson
of the previous UN General Secretary U Thant and was born in New York
in 1966. He studied history at Harvard and Cambridge and specialized in
British-Asian colonial history. Among other things he has worked for
Human Rights Watch and taken part in UN peacekeeping missions in
Cambodia and the former Yugoslavia. He has occupied various posts in
the UNO since 2000.
