was born 1959 in Gdynia, Poland and left for Germany in 1968, where she studied German, Romance and Slavic languages and literature. After a short job as a bilingual secretary at the Deutschen Polen-Institut in Darmstadt, she went to Athens for two years, where she worked for a German publisher. Joanna Manc has translated Polish literature into German since 1994. In 2010, together with Włodzimierz Nowak, she, won the Georg Dehio book prize. She lives in Frankfurt.
