Alecos Papadatos was born in 1959 in Thessaloniki, Greece. From 1978 to 1986 he studied Economics at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and obtained a postgraduate degree in Marketing at the Sorbonne University Ι in Paris. He also took animation and cartoon-design courses during this time and, on completing his studies, worked as an animator on French television commercials and cartoon video-clips for prestigious companies. In 1986 he turned his passion for drawing and design into a profession, and has worked as an animation supervisor, cartoon designer and director to this day.
Alecos has produced and directed animated short films (first prize at the 1989 Short Film Festival in Drama, Greece; official Greek entry at the 1989 Berlin International Film Festival) and has animated and directed animated cartoons (including episodes of the television cartoon series »Babar«, produced by Canal+, Paris).
In 1991 Alecos moved to Athens and taught animation and animated film production. Since 1993 he has produced, in collaboration with animator Annie Di Donna, layouts, animation, colour backgrounds and computer-animated sequences of several television series, pilots, feature films and CD-ROMs for the Greek and European market, as well as a large number of television commercials in 2D/3D animation. In addition, he has directed and produced cartoon character animation for feature film credits, animation for theatre productions and cartoon illustrations.
Alecos also designs technical storyboards for animated television series and cartoon characters and has designed comic strips and comic books with an emphasis on corporate advertising (Egnatia Bank, Giotis) and was one of the main cartoonists for the leading Athens newspaper »To Vima«.
Alecos is also the artist behind »Logicomix«, a graphic novel written by Apostolos Doxiadis. »Logicomix« was a No. 1 »New York Times« Best Seller Graphic Book in 2009. He is now working on a new graphic novel, a historical fiction recounting the birth of a new political system in Ancient Greece which would be given the name »Democracy«. He lives in Athens.
