Biography

Jacques Roubaud, a retired mathematician, poet and translator, was born in Caluire (Rhône) in 1932. Roubaud co-founded the magazine Change with Jean-Pierre Faye and was a member of the group associated with the magazine, ‘action poétique.’ On Raymond Queneau's advice he joined the Oulipo group, in 1966. He is the originator of many of Ouilpo's 'contraintes', for example the 'baobab (tr: Baobab, a.k.a monkey bread tree) and the 'Haiku oulipien généralisé'
(tr: Generalised Oulipotic Haikus). The author lives in Paris.
