Call to attend the reading performance “berlin reads”

The prelude to this year’s international literature festival berlin is to be something special again. Therefore we would like to invite everybody living in Berlin to read a piece of prose or poetry of their choice at their favourite place. Let’s kick-off the festival together and spread the flow of literature all over Berlin. In the last two years, more than 100 participants – authors, friends of the festival, actors, booksellers, librarians and teachers took part. This year’s great reading performance on September 10 begins at 6 a.m. and finishes at 5.30 p.m. – half an hour before the 14th ilb opens its doors at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

Every participant will receive a free ticket for the opening event of the festival and the subsequent reading with Jhumpa Lahiri. Please invite your friends and family to read with you. You can sign up as groups with maximum 3 people.

The choice of the reading location is entirely up to you: it can take place in an underground or train, on your doorstep, in a public square, in a park, on Unter den Linden or in a bookshop. The reading should take between 5 and 15 minutes.

If you want to read in a foreign language – wonderful! Please inform us about the language you will be reading in.

We would be delighted to count you among our participants.

We need the following - best by August 27:

● your name

● the title of the work you will be reading from

● the author's name

● the exact place of your reading

● the exact time of your reading

So sign up and spread the word!

Two weeks before the festival starts we will announce all the readings on our website and on Facebook.
