Text collection for the worldwide reading for Pussy Riot on the 12/12/2012

Dara McGrath won the Photo Competition of the 12. ilb.
The motto of the competition was “Europe Now”. Within this framework the ilb was looking for pictures, which capture a (the) European reality, and maybe the condition of the continent, how it appears to the Photographer. Dara Mcgraths Photo of the German-Polish Border convinced the Jury.

Writers issue statement of principle and intent
During the Edinburgh World Writers’ Conference in August 2012, a number of participating writers met in a closed session to discuss aspects of the publishing industry and the influences on literature and writers of recent market changes, not least as to ebooks and the internet. It was agreed to develop a statement of principles that could then be further developed and refined by the upcoming Edinburgh World Writers’ Conference events throughout the coming 12 months.

Reading with ABDO KHAL is cancelled!
Despite our standing line to the Saudi Arabian embassy, ABDO KHAL did not get his visa and could not board the plane to Berlin. His reading tonight at 9 pm at Haus der Berliner Festspiele has been cancelled.

Dear guests of the 12. ilb, unfortunately, John Burnside can not be part of this years festival. His readings on the 16th September at 11am (Galerie Kit Schulte) and 4pm (Haus der Berliner Festspiele) will not be held!

The ilb appealed for a worldwide reading on March 20th 2012 for Liu Xiaobo
The international literature festival Berlin (ilb) called on cultural institutions, schools, radio stations and interested parties to participate in a worldwide reading of prose and poems by the Chinese author and 2010 Nobel Peace prize laureate Liu Xiaobo on March 20th 2012.

We had no idea how little we knew! The international literature festival: Ten years of a miracle
“Happily the fruit falls, when ripe, to the ground. As the poem falls to the paper: Creeps up, makes no noise, takes the pen, writes itself down, and disappears.” Like the poem that the late Syrian poet Fuad Rifka read at the International Literature Festival (ilb) in 2004, the ilb crept up on Berlin.

„From where I shan’t return“ – today the Berlin Anthology is published right before the beginning of the 15th ilb. 22 authors from 15 different countries contemplated the fates of refugees and asylum seekers in literary form. The result is a collection of diverse voices in the form of poems, short stories, and essays in English and German.
