32 books selected as »extraordinary« by the international literature festival berlin


Since 2012, the International Children’s and Young Adult Literature section of the international literature festival berlin awards the prize »The Extraordinary Book« for excellent works written for children, teenagers and young adults. This year’s jury consists of the authors presented in the section program of the festival.

The 32 books selected as »The Extraordinary Book 2017« will be on display in both their original languages and in German translation at free exhibitions held at the Philipp Schaeffer Library (6.–29.9.2017) and Haus der Berliner Festspiele (6.–16.9.2017) as part of the 17th international literature festival berlin. This year’s selection of books and the accompanying jury statements can be found at www.literaturfestival.com/cyal/extraordinary.

The jurors responsible for selecting »The Extraordinary Book 2017« include Alina Bronsky, Jón Gnarr, Meg Rosoff, Raoul Schrott and Angie Thomas. The books chosen this year include THE BFG by Roald Dahl, ASTERIX GLADIATEUR by René Goscinny, ARBEIT UND STRUKTUR by Wolfgang Herrndorf, DIE 13½ LEBEN DES KÄPT’N BLAUBÄR by Walter Moers, THE PERFUME by Patrick Süskind, THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN by Mark Twain.
